Metro Detroit’s 4-star Award Winning Restaurant

Executive Pastry Chef, Christina Wood

A native of Dearborn, Michigan, Chef Christina has been passionate about desserts ever since she was a kid. She began working in the food industry when she was sixteen years old baking muffins at a Bulk Food store. This is where she discovered her love of making desserts and baking became a way to relieve stress for her.

Chef Christina graduated from Henry Ford Community College with a Liberal Arts degree and Culinary Arts degree. Prior to joining BIG ROCK CHOPHOUSE and THE RESERVE, she spent three years working for The Henry Ford Museum as a cook. In 2014, she was named assistant pastry chef at BIG ROCK CHOPHOUSE and THE RESERVE. She quickly moved up the ranks and was promoted to Executive Pastry Chef in June 2018.

As Executive Pastry Chef, she oversees two assistants and they make breads, desserts, wedding cakes and house made sorbet for all private events, weddings, corporate events and more for the restaurant and their on-site banquet facility, THE RESERVE. They also make desserts for local restaurants including C.A.Y.A. Smokehouse Grill and Lumen Detroit.

Throughout her career, Chef Christina has competed in three chocolate showpiece competitions and has received a medal for Best Theme and a medal for 3rd Place. In her spare time she was able to stage at Give Thanks Bakery in Rochester, Michigan (hands on experience making artisan breads and pastries), staged at Sucre in New Orleans (casting chocolates, making ganache, macarons and assembling various desserts) and received a scholarship in 2015 to go to China for two weeks to study the culture and food.

She currently uses Instagram, online courses and continuing education as a way to stay on top of current pastry trends. She’s also attended enrichment classes when available offered by famous pastry chefs such as Ewald Notter and Antonio Bachour. “Being creative and coming up with new desserts each season is my favorite part of my job, added Chef Christina. “From the research phase, to the baking process to the final creation, I have so much fun. I truly love watching people’s reactions to my desserts because I’m able to make them happy and it makes me happy when they are happy.”

Chef Christina is married and resides in St. Clair Shores with her husband and two dogs.
